The project team has been informed that Mitsubishi Electric is implementing a product safety recall of some of its air source heat pumps, Ecodan W85, W50, W90 and HW140 units. This is because a component on one of its Ecodan outdoor units (PUHZ W85VHA-BS) has failed under pressure, damaging the outdoor unit.
Whilst there has only been a single failure in just one of its products, amongst the several thousands that have been installed in the UK in the last few years, and whilst they believe that this is unlikely to occur again, as a precautionary measure, they have taken the decision to recall all models that were manufactured using the particular component which failed.
Unfortunately the majority of the air source heat pumps that have been installed in Chale to date are affected by this. All affected households have therefore been sent a letter instructing them to switch their heat pump off and advising them to use their immersion heater capability to meet their hot water requirements until their unit can be exchanged for a new one.
It is Mitsubishi Electric’s intention to exchange all the units concerned as soon as possible and they will do all they can to minimise the impact of this inconvenience.
For any queries about this, the project team will be at the Project HQ site hut on Spanners Close between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Mon-Fri next week.
