Although windy conditions in Chale (something that Chale is renowned for!) have made the installation of solar PV panels more difficult, it is expected that the final installations of solar PVs will complete this week.
Some of the older electric meters have needed to be replaced due to compatibility problems with the solar panels – this is the case in about 1 in 300 meters – so householders have contacted their energy suppliers to do this.
Although full data will need to be collected over a longer period of time, one household where the solar panels are now up and running has reported that their electricity bills are now a third of what they usually are at this time of year.
The project has received a lot of interest, not just locally, but from government bodies, charitable organisations and housing associations nationally and internationally who are looking at large scale solar installations.
