The Chale Community Project has been presented with a Gold award for Environmental Best Practice & Sustainable Development in the Charity/No-profit category at the annual Green Apple Awards. The ceremony was held at the Houses of Parliament on 15 November.
The aim of the Green Apple Awards is to “recognise, reward and promote environmental best practice around the world.” Recognised internationally, the awards are hosted by the Green Organisation, a non-profit environment group.
Vincent Wedlock-Ward of Southern Housing Group, who along with Katie Steiness from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, collected the award on behalf of the project commented: “We are so proud of what has been achieved in Chale in an incredibly short time and getting this award is the icing on the cake. There are so many people to thank, but in particular we would like to thank everyone who has had renewable technologies put on their homes for their patience and cooperation while the work was being carried out. One of the hopes for this project is to inspire other communities and we are recording our experiences in Chale online and in other formats so that they are available to other communities who would like to find out more.”
